From the President
What it means to be a "Community Bank".

Scott Huedepohl

It’s great to be here!

Well, I now have over 2 months under my belt as the new president of Community State Bank. What I’ve found in that time is that this place is pretty special. It is loaded with really neat people...both customers and employees alike.

So who am I? Let me give you some insight on who I am. I’m a self proclaimed “community bank junkie!” Let me explain.

My Dad was a community banker for many years, and I have been one for close to 30 years. I have been able to see firsthand the importance of community... and a true community bank is right in middle of that. A community bank takes in money in the form of deposits and loans that money back out to families and businesses right here in our market. A community bank should be a leader in the communities it calls home…giving back more than it takes.

Community bankers should not only be involved in organizations...they should help lead them. A community bank has a local board of directors that care about where they live. A community bank makes decisions right here and don’t rely on a far away committee to make decisions for us. A community bank is only as strong as the communities we serve... 100% of our assets are here.

I could go on and on. The point is that I’m a very strong community advocate and promise that Community State Bank will remain one also. I look at it as a 3 legged stool... one leg is employees, one is shareholders, and one is customers/community. If you remove just one leg, the stool falls. We have to take care of all three! I look forward to doing just that.

I would love to hear from you. My direct phone line is 262-878-3767 and my email is scotth@communitystatebank.net. Thoughts, suggestions, comments and ideas are always welcome.

Finally, I hope that each of you have a great Thanksgiving! I’m thankful to be part of this CSB family.

Shop Online Safely
Online Shopping Security Tips for the Holiday Season.
Shop Online Safely

More shoppers than ever are turning to mobile devices and computers to do their holiday shopping. However, internet shopping has unique risks for consumers, so shoppers need to take steps to protect themselves from fraud and scams. Here are a few tips for novice and veteran internet shoppers.

Avoid using public Wi-Fi
Any purchases made online require transmitting your credit card and/or bank account information over the internet. Using a public Wi-Fi connection to do so puts that sensitive information at risk. Hackers can tap into unsecured Wi-Fi connections at hotspots like coffee shops and airport terminals to capture that information. If you're using a wireless connection to shop, be sure that it requires a password or WEP key.

Don't respond to text solicitations
During the holiday shopping season, scammers will send out hundreds of fake deals or gift card offers via text message. If you respond, you'll likely be prompted to divulge sensitive financial information (such as a credit card number). Responding also puts you on the "sucker list" which means you'll receive even more unsolicited scam texts.

Monitor your accounts
Proactively monitoring your financial accounts (such as bank and credit card statements) can help you catch errors and spot potential fraud at the first sign. To simplify this process, use a single credit card for all your online purchases. That way you only have one statement to check instead of several.

Do not click links on social networking sites
To avoid infecting your computer or mobile device with malicious software, never click on a link to a deal or special savings on a social networking site or in an unsolicited email. Scammers will often disguise a social media post or email to make it seem as if it's coming from a known retailer, but the link will take you to a fake site and infect your device. If you see a link that supposedly leads to a sale you want to take advantage of, visit the retailer's website directly rather than clicking the link. From there you can verify if the sale is legit.

Finally, if you do notice suspicious charges on your credit card or transfers from your banking account, contact your credit card company and bank right away to notify them. They will put a freeze on the account, preventing further fraud. Remember, whenever you're online: think before you click.

Gift From the Heart Gift Cards Make the Perfect Gift!

Community State Bank in partnership with Children's Service Society of Wisconsin, and Love Inc., is proud to announce the 10th annual Gift from the Heart Program. The Gift from the Heart program is designed to provide toys and clothing to children in need throughout the local communities.

Now through Monday, December 16th, customers will be given the chance (at each Community State Bank office location - excluding the Union Grove Motor Bank) to choose an ornament with a name on it from the "Giving Tree". Each ornament will have the child's first name, gender, age, and what he/she needs or would like for Christmas. Customers are asked to purchase a gift for a child and return it to the location where they chose the name by Monday, December 16th.

The gift should be UNWRAPPED and returned with the original name tag. Community State Bank's staff will have them ready to be picked up and delivered by Children's Service Society of Wisconsin and Love Inc., about a week before Christmas.
